Silver Linings

Do you believe this? That every cloud has a Silver Lining....or do you think that is too...."Pollyanna," for you?

In recent years, my mom and I have taken to looking for them in different situations we find ourselves in. We're trying to get my dad to see things our way too, but I don't think he's completely convinced.

Have you ever found yourself in the position of BEING the Silver Lining for someone else? Maybe you have, yet you weren't aware of it. Or maybe you are lucky enough to be able to say, "Yes, I have been!"

Today was MY day to BE the Silver Lining. I was waiting for my ride after work. She hadn't replied to my text or shown up by the time a friend and fellow co-worker was done. When she saw me still waiting, she asked me if I would like a ride home. Depending on my mood, depends on whether I say yes or no......today was a YES PLEASE! kind of day. She had just finished telling me she had left her cell phone at home and was telling me about some troubles she was having with her van, when it started acting weird.....neither of us had ever had a vehicle act like it was. We were stopped at a light when her van died, no power what-so-ever! Of course we were in a right turn only lane, and her flashers weren't working either. She reaches for her Triple A card and goes to get her phone, and realizes, OH NO! I hand her my phone so she can call the auto club. We then proceeded to have an enjoyable conversation and some quality time together. The only flies in the ointment were all the rude people that kept honking their horns, as if that was going to make us move. And out of all the people honking, only two gents asked us if they could help move us someplace else......which we kindly refused, because we A) had a tow truck looking for us.....Oh, that's another story! and B) we both felt that where we were was a safer place for all concerned, since it was a busy intersection, and turning right or going straight would have put us in a one lane road and it would have blocked traffic going those directions.

So, the SILVER LININGS for this day started at 7 a.m. when I had an encounter that made me want to choke someone.......then with an unintended no-show from my ride, both of which made me want to be home even more, so I said "YES" to a ride home from a friend who was going to need my phone and my company so that she wouldn't be stuck alone with a disabled car.

I hope that YOU can find the Silver Linings in your life. And if YOU are the Silver Lining, I hope that you are aware of it. But remember, even if you don't see the results of your actions, they have long lasting and even longer reaching after affects. And those could be the Silver Linings in someone elses life.
